PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB

The Assistive Technology Technician/Therapeutic Coordinator will be a newly established position within the Communities of DG and DP and will report directly to the Director of Professional Services & Performance.

This position is designed to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through the evaluation, implementation of programs, maintenance and equipment. This role will provide therapeutic support services and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance individual independence, accessibility, participation, and overall quality of life.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in assessing individuals’ needs for assistive technology and adaptive equipment in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and Assistive Technology Professional (ATP).
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of individualized support and therapeutic plans.
  • Carry out therapeutic programs and interventions as directed by clinical and programmatic needs.
  • Train individuals served, family members, caregivers, and staff in the proper use of assistive technology devices, adaptive strategies, and therapeutic programs.
  • Support direct support professionals and other staff in integrating assistive technology and therapeutic interventions into daily routines and activities.
  • Manage inventory of assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and therapeutic devices; order supplies and equipment as needed; and maintain the organization and cleanliness of the technology and therapy areas.
  • Document individual progress and maintain accurate service records in accordance with agency, payer, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory standards, and best practices related to assistive technology and therapeutic services.
  • Participate in staff education, training initiatives, and quality improvement activities.
  • Remain current with advancements in assistive technology and therapeutic practices and recommend enhancements to services and supports.
  • Work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team to optimize service delivery and outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with individual served, families, guardians, staff, and external providers.
  • Advocate for the rights, needs, and access to appropriate assistive technology and therapeutic services for individuals supported by the organization.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must possess one of the following credentials:

  • Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
  • Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA)
  • Educator with relevant experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or assistive technology implementation

Justification

The addition of this position will strengthen the organization’s ability to provide specialized support services, improve access to assistive technology, enhance therapeutic outcomes, and promote greater independence for individuals served. The role will also support staff development, improve interdisciplinary coordination, ensure compliance with best practices, and contribute to overall quality-of-life improvements for the individuals residing in the Communities of DG and DP.
